Written by Francois Fenelon (1651-1715), a French archbishop, theologian, poet, and writer.
We must learn contentment. What God gives, we receive, gratefully. We like to believe that we can choose what God gives to us. We can’t. If we got to choose, we would pick only the things we want, not the things God wants. What we really need is this: for God’s desires to become our desires, without restrictions, without qualifications. If God wants something, we want it just as much.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. [Romans 8:28]
