Shalom represents the peace that comes from living in harmony with God. Shalom is not a simple peace from external conflict. Instead, shalom is a covenant word, an expression of God’s faithful relationship with his people. We are intended to know the fullness of God’s perfect peace — a state of peace with God, ourselves, and others. Shalom is a complete peace that can only come from a faithful God who promises to always be with us – in good times as well as in difficult, tumultuous times. When we pray to Jehovah Shalom we are praying to the Prince of Peace, God who IS peace itself. Shalom.
Our Scripture reflection is from Philippians 4:4-7 (NIV):
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
