Jesus fully expressed the love of the Father toward us. He calls us to follow His example in loving God and loving others. Being Habits—accepting and abiding in God’s love, experiencing solitude, practicing prayer, knowing and applying Scripture, and maintaining supportive relationships—help us live in a loving relationship with God. Doing Habits—obeying and expressing God’s love, showing grace and forgiveness, encouraging others, and building community—help us live out God’s love for others, at home or in the marketplace. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. [1 John 4:10-11]
